About

In the summer of 2023 Carol VanderMiller attended a Village at the Falls fundraiser. She was intrigued by the village movement and wondered if a Village could be established in the Happy Valley area. She met with Board members of Villages NW to learn more and decided to accept the challenge of starting a new Village.

More than 20 people attended the first informational meeting in September 2023 at the Happy Valley Library. In the next few months, we established a service area that includes parts of Happy Valley and Clackamas and started reaching out to the community. We hold monthly meetings to spread the word about Sunnyside East Village.

We're grateful for the help we've received from the community in getting the word out about our Village. In April the Chamber of Commerce included us in their Happy Valley Volunteer Fair. We were featured in the article "New Village on its way to Happy Valley" in the May edition of the local newspaper, Happy Valley News. And the City of Happy Valley included us in the Happy Valley 4th of July Family Festival.

Sunnyside East Village is making plans to join Villages NW, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with ten other villages in its network. Mentors from Villages NW are working with us, sharing their experiences starting their own Villages.

We invite you to help us spread the word about our Village. Please consider sharing the attached flyer with your friends and neighbors.
